Since Byakuya cannot sense anything outside of Senkei while inside it, he must rely on his six senses and experience to predict an opponent's actions before they make them; otherwise, he might be caught off guard and killed if not careful enough. He does not need his sword to use this ability, but he can summon it if he wants to use it for extra power or to block a strong attack.
